It’s Spring…ing wavy hair

This is going to be another mindless, silly post. So if you are waiting to hear more news about the K Pop Asia concert on 4th June or Rain’s concert in May or the Korean Music Wave concert on 15th July, then there is none…for now.

No, this is about Spring (sort of) because after a very long, long winter, way after Spring was officially supposed to be here, it is finally here. KTO has just announced that the cherry blossoms are finally blooming and will be in time for a great show at the Hangang Yeouido Spring Flower Festival.

If any of you happen to be in Korea during this time, do make an effort to view these lovely spring flowers.

Cherry Blossoms in Yeouido

With Spring, there is a change in your clothes and I discovered in hairstyle as well. Specifically, in men’s hair style.

I’ve been ‘watching’ a few dramas recently. When I say watching, I really mean watching selected parts of the drama with the fast forward button used liberally, filled with lots of reading on forums like soompi. Besides the fact that there are no compelling dramas to watch at the moment, I can’t afford the time. Thankfully, most of the dramas aren’t too difficult to guess – plotwise…except for Midas, which has somewhat lost me with all it’s M&A, wheeling and dealing.

Now back to the purpose of this post.

I was just glancing at some of the dramas…49 Days, Thorn Birds, Crime Unit, The Duo and of course Midas and I noticed one interesting factor…. there are quite a few wavy, permed hair around…on the actors (the girls almost always have straight hair). Ok, some are wavy whilst others are curls.

Jung Il Woo as the Scheduler in 49 Days

Jung Il Woo is the Scheduler in 49 Days. Basically he guides the dead to the next stage and occasionally takes care of a couple of lost souls who aren’t schedule to die yet. Yes, yes, this drama got some soul swopping too but nothing as interesting as Secret Garden. His overall style isn’t too bad and whilst I don’t really care much about that wavy mop, I guess I can still ‘tahan’ it coz he’s quite cute in the drama. But the eye candies really belong to Jo Hyun Jae and Bae Soo Bin and BOTH do not have wavy hair.

Song Il Gook in Crime Unit

Song Il Gook in the drama Crime Unit is a rough, tough policeman, who isn’t above bending a few laws if it means catching the baddies. But (OF COURSE) he is also a very sensitive guy with a heartbreaking story behind his toughness.

Nothing wrong with his acting although he has never been on my ‘banchan’ list. But he has zilch chemistry with his ‘love interest’, Song Ji Hyo and I reckon it’s got to do with that mop of hair. Why, or why did the stylist decide this would be right for the character? Sigh… Btw, Kim Joon (T-Max) is also in the drama. Err…can’t comment on his acting coz I gave up almost before I began. T-Max is of course coming in June for the K Pop Asia concert on the 4th June.

Seo Do Young in Thorn Birds

In The Thorn Birds, Seo Do Young is a film director in the drama, who holds a torch for the female lead, Han Hye Jin. Now in this instance, I think the gently wavy hair is done just right. It showed his slightly romantic side and also reflect his creative character. After 10 episodes (which I skipped mostly) of heartache, betrayal, abandoning children and mother by the dozens (oops…did I give the plot away?) and what-nots, the drama is actually getting interesting. I guess it’s because the reversal of fortune is about to start. I must say the male lead, Joo Sang Wook is rather pleasing on the eyes too. ^^

Lee Min Ho in City Hunter (credit on photo)

Lee Min Ho is busy filming his latest drama, City Hunter and this was taken at the Thailand’s airport. He had gone there to do some filming. Now, I must say this style caught my eye. Bearing in mind that I felt no electrifying vides from his with his previous 2 dramas, this is saying something. There is something quite manly about this look and I think the slightly wavy hair enhanced it somehow.

City Hunter is based on the Japanese comic illustrated by Tsukasa Hojo. I remember reading the Taiwanese version and enjoying it very much. Of course, Jackie Chan’s movie made a deep impression too because the character was both a womaniser and a comedian besides being a very good fighter/ detective. I can’t really see Lee Min Ho as this character and I think I read somewhere that they’ve changed the storyline. Sigh… I hope they don’t butcher it too much. City Hunter will air on SBS on the 25th May. Those residing in Singapore will have a good chance of catching it if the channel ONE starts soon. L will be crossing her fingers and toes I think. hehe!

Kim Hyun Jung in Coupang CF

There is only one word to describe this…….. ‘Why?’

Thankfully this is not for a drama but his CF, coupang. What I want to know is…how is this image going to endear me to the site? I know there are lots of Kim Hyun Joong fans out there (bb is one big fan but I think she’s not going to kill me). I wonder if it’s the company’s idea to make ‘it’ springy because it’s Spring. Kim Hyun Joong is busy preparing for his first solo album to be released in May/ June. His drama, ‘Playful Kiss’ will air on SCV this month. I believe there will be some promotions going on, so watch out for it on SCV’s site.

And now…last but not least- No Min Woo (who else) in Midas. The reason why I started writing about this post.

In February, in the earlier episodes, when it was still rather cold and spring was not in the air….his hair couldn’t be straigher.

No Min Woo in Midas

But it’s April now and in the recent episodes his hair started to get wavier (is there such a word?). Now, I’m not sure if the stylist decide that since he is dying, he should have a bit of wave in his hair to hide his skinny frame (he supposedly lost 8 kg for this role) or they decided to give him a new look to reflect his change from the womanising days (which I like too) But err… since he is dying and supposedly very busy putting his affairs in order, he got time to spend an hour or so in the salon meh?

No Min Woo in Midas

Photos lifted from the Midas thread in soompi.

However, he still looks pretty good whether with straight hair or wavy hair. I still like. Just make sure the PD/ stylist don’t make him loose his hair.

I can’t say I enjoy Midas totally because it’s about stocks, shares and finance. None of which appeals to my interest. However, it does seemed to be getting interesting in tonight’s episode as Jang Hyuk is manipulating and plotting for his revenge from….. behind bars!. Can’t wait for the subs to see what happened. Btw, those waiting for some sort of love scenes in the drama…there are almost none. Not even between the supposedly lover pair, Jang Hyuk and Lee Min Jung. 🙁

And now, if you want to read about another post that I wrote about hair, here it is- ‘Bad Hair Day’.

Actually, I must say I admire the Korean artistes for always daring to try something new. When I was talking to the hair stylist @ La Coco, she had said that Singaporean men’s hairstyle is way too boring as they are mostly straight…and straight. What do you think?
