The entertainment scene on the google box just gotten more exciting for those into Korean fare.
Oh!K debuted at the end of October and is now on free preview till 11 November 2014.
What makes this slightly different from the other channels? Well, the shows are from MBC, one of the 3 free-to-air channels in Korea. Home to drama hits like ‘Dae Jang Guem’, ‘Goong’, ‘The Moon That Embraces the Sun’ and ‘Empress Ki’ and variety shows like ‘Dad, Where Are You Going?’ and ‘Infinity Challenge’, MBC is known for producing well made historical dramas or saeguk.
Looking at the showlist on the channel, it seems to offer a mixture of old and new dramas. It has the the 2010 drama, ‘Dong Yi’ (Han Hyo Joo, Ji Jin Hee), the even older 2006 drama, ‘Couple or Trouble‘ (Han Ye Seul, Oh Ji Ho). Hmmmm…
Thankfully, they are also showing the new dramas like ‘Journal of the Night Watchman‘ (Jung Il Woo, Jung Yun Ho) and ‘Fated to Love You‘ (Jang Na Ra, Jang Hyuk). *Read about my thoughts on this drama here. It has Choi Jin Hyuk too!
Both these dramas have just finished their runs in Korea. What’s even more exciting is the fact that they are broadcasting current dramas like ‘My Spring Days‘ (Kam Woo Sung, Sooyoung) and ‘Pride and Prejudice’ (Choi Jin Hyuk, Baek Jin Hee). The last mentioned drama is aired one day after it’s telecast in Korea. Now that’s hot!
For those into variety shows, you will finally get to watch both seasons of ‘Dad, Where Are You Going?’ as well as ‘Music Core’. Or if you are into manly and dirty stuff, you can catch ‘Real Man‘ (where celebrities are given the military treatment).
A little more on the show, ‘Pride and Prejudice‘. I’ve caught the first episode and it was surprisingly fast paced with an interesting plot. I’ve always felt that Korean dramas never quite put enough effort into the plot for such genres and concentrate too much on the love stories. Hopefully, this will prove wrong. Of course, the obligatory love triangle plus eye candy are still there. I hope Choi Jin Hyuk will be allowed to shine in here.
Just a little fun. Whilst watching episode 1, I discovered a small blooper. Can you guess what it is? Click on the link and check it out. ^^
Oh!K is available in HD on StarHub TV Channel 816 with English and Chinese subtitles. I’m very pleased to note that they have English subtitles as there are so many non Chinese speaking fans out there. Customers of the Basic Chinese Entertainment HD Upsize Group, Impian Pack, Thangam Pack or the Thangam Migai Pack will have this channel in their package at no extra charge.

Since they are showing some old dramas, I wonder if they will show ‘The Legend‘ starring my favourite man- Bae Yong Joon. ^^
