Bibigo officially opened it’s fourth outlet at the newly revamped Suntec City Mall last week. With it’s dim lights and sand washed wall, it felt cozy and even slightly romantic (although it makes photography difficult. hehe!) I also like that there is an area for single seating. Very useful for times when you do or have to eat alone. They have cleverly placed it such that you look into the kitchen area, thus avoiding those awkward moments when you are sharing table and have to face another person and don’t know where to look (except into your phone).
So what’s new about this outlet? Well, five new dishes will be exclusive to this branch only.
– Hot Stone Galbi
– Courgette Pajeon
– BBQ Spicy Chicken
– Grilled SSamjang Pork
– Oriental Chopped Salad
– Bibigo Salad
Unfortunately, the Hot Stone Galbi was not available on the day I was there, but here’s the enticing photo that was sent to me.
However, I did get to try some other dishes on their menu.
Yuzu soda with kimchi. I don’t think you can go very wrong with yuzu soda but do try the plum soda too, which is equally nice.
The char-grilled bulgogi was flavourful though I did find it just slightly over cooked. But that’s just me as some would probably find it just right.
However, I love the Hot Stone chicken which was well marinated with the skin grilled just right. The meat was nice and tender. Yummy. Be warned though, you should try and finish both the bulgogi and chicken before they get cold.
Pajeons are a great favourite with most of us. Done well, the crispiness of the batter (just very slightly burnt) with the soft ingredients are a perfect match. I tried both seafood pajeon and the courgette pajeon.
The seafood pajeon had lots of scallion to balance the squids and shrimps. the squids were fresh and chewy enough.
But it was the courgette pajeon that I really like. Exclusive to the Suntec branch, this new dish is a very nice palatable balance to all the meat dishes- it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with ingredients like courgette, sweet potato, butternut squash and topped with rocket salad. This is a healthy dish as courgettes are low on calories and fat whilst rich in nutrients like folate, potassium and vitamin A.
Spicy soft tofu stew is a wonderful dish to have (especially when it’s cold), it is also great as a one dish meal as it comes with a bowl of fluffy, pearl-white rice (my rice never turns out like this). I had mine with seafood (the pork option is available) and it was chock-a-block with ingredients with just the right touch of spiciness. It costs $10 and is a good choice if you are eating alone.
I wasn’t expecting much from the bibigo salad but it was surprisingly refreshing with it’s apple dressing. It was the crunchy with the fresh vegetables, even without the crispy rice. The chicken and the mushrooms added a nice touch to make it really appetising. Bibigo salad is also exclusive the the new Suntec branch.
Lastly, there is the all important dessert. I was a little disappointed that the hotteok wasn’t available that day. But I tried the Riso Nero ice cream (black rice) and the Sweet Potato Mattang. The special ice cream with the signature crispy rice crust was a nice finish to the whole meal. I like it that it wasn’t overly sweet.
The Sweet Potato Mattang consists of fried sweet potato coated in caramelised brown syrup. Bibigo added walnuts and crispy rice to their version. Coated in grain syrup (I’m not sure if there is a difference from brown syrup). This is a dish that must be eaten when it is hot and should be shared with friends as it might be too much for just one person. I have to confesse I love the walnuts more than the sweet potatos.
There were a few more dishes I would have loved to try but sadly there was no more room in my tummy that day, so I’ll have to go back, preferably with 2-3 friends. ^^
Bibigo Suntect City Mall branch is located at B1-107, Tower 3. It’s probably best to place reservations if you intend to go during peak hours (T: 6336 4745)
