Korean Film Festival 2011, part of the annual Korea Festival 2011, officiall starts today. From today till Saturday, a total of 6 movies will be screened at Lido, Shaw Theatre. Each of these movies have won awards in various film festivals both within Korea and internationally.
Opening the Korean Film Festival tonight will be Barefoot Gibong starring Shin Hyun Joon (viewers may be familiar with him as the host for KBS’ Entertainment Relay. ^^
Both Shin Hyun Joon and Take Jae Hoon, the cast of the show, Barefoot Gibong will be at Lido tonight at about 6pm. So do remember to drop by if you want to catch a glimpse of these 2 stars.
Barefoot Gibong (맨발의 기봉이)

Directed by Kwon Soo-kyeong. This is about a intellectually challenged guy who loves his mother and running. He joins the marathon with the aim of winning the prize money so that he can buy a set of dentures for his mother. This movie was amongst the top Korean movies in 2006 in Korea and is based on a real story.
Ha Ha Ha (하하하)

Hahaha is directed by Hong Sang-soo and depicts 2 close friends who met up for a drink of makgeolli and reminiscenced about a hot summer holiday by the seaside, not realising that both of them were in the same place with the same group of people. This movie also stars Moon So-ri and Kim Kang-woo, 2 great actors. This movie was showcased at the 2010 Festival de Cannes.
Re-Encounter (혜화,동(童))

Hyehwa and Hansoo were lovers when they were younger. However, Hansoo abandoned Hyehwa when he found out that she was pregnant. 5 years later, he turned up at her doorsteps, wanting to make amends and with enws of their child whom Hyehwa thought was dead.
Bedevilled (김복남 살인사건의 전말)

About a woman who is sick of the uncaring society and another woman who is sick because of the uncaring society. This movie promises plenty of blood and glory as revenge she takes revenge upon the people who did her wrong. The movie was showcased during the 2010 Festival de Cannes, Movie Critics Week.
Second Half (맛있는 인생)

About a down and out film director who escaped to a small seaside village that he had visited 20 years ago. He met a young woman who looked very much like the same woman he met vack then. This movie was showcased at the 2010 Pusan Fil Festival.
Come Rain, Come Shine (사랑한다, 사랑하지 않는다)

This was Hyun Bin’s last movie before he went into the army. Starring with him is the very versatile Im Soo-jpng (who has recently signed with Key East). A wife announced to her husband one day that she is leaving him for another man. He accepts her decision passively. On the day that she was to move out, a storm broke out. Will she stay?
This movie competed in the 2011 Berlin Film Festival and Hyun Bin was granted special permission to attend the festival just his enlistment.
