Meeting Spy Myung Wol

The Hallyu community in Singapore had something else to talk about and get excited about besides the usual K Pop concerts during the past one week. The cast of the Korean drama, Spy Myung Wol was in Singapore for a week to do some filming. Starring Eric Mun (of Shinhwa), Han Ye Seul, Lee Jin Wook & Jang Hee Jin, the filming would also involved some 300 hundred fans..who voluntarily gave up their precious Sunday just to be one of the many faceless extras. Afterall, it’s not often that one can say: “I acted in a Korean drama.” ^^ My twitter was pretty busy that day updating the status of the filming that day. Hehe!

As the filming drew to a close, Marina Bay Sands, the venue sponsor, organised a small media call (it’s the first time I’ve heard of this phrase..something new to me) to get to know the cast and the drama a little better. Unfortunately, Eric was still busy filming and could not make it at the last minute but I managed to get up close and personal with the 2 of the most good looking spies from North Korea as well as a lovely young actress.

The meeting was held in one of the presidential suite, which was big & cozy at the same time. In fact, it didn’t feel like a press conference, it felt more like a friendly chat between friends sans the coffee & tea for the next 30 minutes or so.

You know, it almost always surprises me how small, slim & petite the actresses are in real life. Han Ye Seul & Jang Hee Jin were no different. Aren’t they pretty?

And the handsome spy from North Korea…Choi Ryu aka Lee Jin Wook

The Hallyu star, Kang Woo aka Eric wasn’t there but here’s a photo to make up for it. This was posted by ERPJ in soompi. I’m sure many of you would have seen it already.

Spy Myung Wol is a rom-com about a female North Korean spy Myung Wol, whose mission is to seduce the top Hallyu star, Kang Woo to North Korea voluntarily. She is aided in this mission by her compatriot, Choi Ryu. Joo In Ah rounds up the relationship chart as an actress, who is also the heiress to a hotel and madly in love with Kang Woo. The scenes in Singapore revolve around Kang Woo staging a showcase here.

Sounds fun? Hehe! Yeah, it sounds funny to me too…. a spy trying to lure a top Hallyu star to defect over to the communist North. Of course, I’m sure what would happen in the end would be the other way round.

The 3 of them started off by introducing their characters in the drama.

The audio is a little soft as there was no mic so you may have to turn up the volume a little. Now just a little side note. Shortly after the interview started, Han Ye Seul suddenly stood up and asked to be excused. And she disappeared for a good 5-8 minutes. We were all cluelss as to what was happening. Neither were the other 2 stars any more enlightened but they clearly felt a little lost without Han Ye Seul. We found out later that she was called away to do some touch-up.

This would be both Eric’s and Lee Jin Wook’s first drama after their military service and I’m glad they chose to do a light hearted one. I’m also happy to see Han Ye Seul in a rom-com after the rather tragic Will It Snow for Christmas? (which also starred both the talented and good looking Kim Soo Hyun and Song Jong Ki).

What was also interesting to note was that he did not flinch when queried about love. I wonder if he thought about Choi Ji Woo at that moment? Hmmm… And oh, Han Ye Seul actually turned the question around and asked the media if they had been involved in any one-sided love. It was really an informal atmosphere.

And as for filming scenes, I think viewers can look forward to some swimming scenes as the infinity pool at the hotel was featured. Perhaps the spy Myung Wol would be seducing Kang Woo in a sexy bikini? Other scenes at the hotel include the ArtsScience Museum as well as The Shoppes (Eric was filming at the mall and could not make it to the press conference).

It would also seemed that the cast was filming all over Singapore- Orchard Road, Haji Lane (I heard) etc..some of the scenes in Singapore

Han Ye Seul was helping both Jang Hee Jin and Lee Jin Wook answer some of the questions. Not in an overbearing way but in a very friendly, nuna/ unnie kind of way. I thought it was very nice of her to break the ice especially as Jang Hee Jin was very shy as the rookie and huebae.

Jang Hee Jin thought that Han Ye Seul would not be easy to get along but in fact she is very warm and caring and Lee Jin wook said that Han Ye Seul brightens up the room whenever she is around. After this interview, I would definitely agree with both of them. Does she look scary to you?

The interview was over in about 30 minutes. We were still hoping Eric would turn up at the last minute but alas, it was not to be. Still, it was one of the best and most interesting press conference (or media call) that I’ve attended. Not only were the staff at MBS helpful and polite, the cast wwas friendly and answered questions readily. I wish the other press conferences were like that too.

For those curious, the following scene was filmed at the hotel from 12 midnight to 3am (13 June). I’m sure the girls were glad to be given a chance to take photos/ record video clips ‘legally’. ^^

Spy Myung Wol will air at KBS on 4th July 2011. Are you looking forward to it? I am. ^^

Before I go, here’s a photo for all Lee Jin Wook fans who are in love with his shy sweet smile. ^^ Hands up those of you who wants to be captured by this spy. Don’t drool please. For more photos, please check out my facebook
