I read from Yonhap news on the 7th August that Jun Sang’s house in the drama ‘Winter Sonata’ will be demolished. This drama starring Bae Yong Joon (Kang Jun Sang/ Lee Min Hyung) and Choi Ji Woo (Jeong Yoo-Jin) sparked a K Wave tsunami when it aired in 2002 on KBS. Thousands of his fans throng the filming sites of his dramas and movies, especially those related to ‘Winter Sonata’.
I made a trip to the ‘house’ in 2004 together with girls from the fan club, with the help of Korea National Tourism Organization Singapore. It was one very memorable trip.
The above is the front gate. Of course we all had to pose in front of the door, pretending to open it.
There was a signage at the door, detailing the do’s and don’ts as well as the opening times to the public. But they were in Japanese, because the Japanese fans were arriving in waves.
Jun Sang’s house was within a hanok neighbourhood. Really old fashion but a little run down.
The house was small and dark. They must have had much difficulty filming the drama there.
Jun Sang’s bedroom. I think he recorded the tape (yeah, it was a tape then) for Yoo Jin at this table?
The very well known piano, where Kang Jun Sang (Bae Yong Joon), a very proficient pianist would play at home. In real life, Bae Yong Joon couldn’t really play. Close up shots of the fingers running over the piano keys were that of Lee Ji Soo, who also composed the piano piece in the drama, ‘The First Time’.
With the demolishment of the house, I guess the ‘Winter Sonata’ fever will be gone.
Well, at least I got a chance to sit on his bed. ^^
