It’s Thursday. It’s lunch time and I’m hungry. Korean BBQ anyone?
Most would know of Chang Korean BBQ Restaurant @ Dempsey Road. The last few times I was there, it was always packed…even at night! But I never knew they had a branch @ Illuma. Because of the special offer to WAH members, I went there for lunch a couple of weeks ago with Kfanatic.
The place doesn’t feel as formal as the one at Dempsey Road as it is buffet style. It is bright and airy, with plenty of space.
There are even table settings for couple who wants more privacy although it’s rather difficult to be lovely-dovey when you smell of BBQ. (what’s that lovely perfume you have on darling? It’s making an animal out of me. Oh? It’s Eau de BBQ Beef you say? Wahaha!)
There was a big screen (made up of 4 smaller screens) on one of the wall showing the latest Korean MVs (of course!). But if you don’t want to be drown in the music and just want to have a decent conversation with your friend(s), you can choose another spot, there’s plenty of space. I think it’s especially great during lunchtime where finding a space in any F&B outlet is a nightmare.
Now the food….
I like the spicy pork belly and spicy dory fish and the squid. ^^ From spicy chicken to beef brisket to pork with beanpaste sauce, there were over 10 varieties of food for you to bbq. The side dishes (banchan) were ok though not many. I guess I’m spoilt by the wide variety of side dishes in Korea. But they made up for it by having plenty of lettuce. This is important for BBQ. I once patronised a restaurant who wanted to charge us when we asked for extra lettuce!!!.
They only have seaweed soup which was a little salty that day. I would have prefer kimchi soup but I guess seaweed soup is more neutral. The real disappointment was the dessert- they had ice cream???!!! 왜요??? I was all set on having su jeong kwa, the Korean punch with persimmon, ginger and cinnamon. Sigh..
But other than that, I enjoyed my lunch at a very affordable price in a very comfortable, cozy environment.
As you can see, both of us didn’t go nuts and piled our plates high but we still ended up with some left overs. There is a notice that says wastage would be charged but I’m guessing they are not going to do it unless you really have lots of food untouched (in which case, you’re being bad mannered and deserves to be charged).
And of course, there’s lots of alcohol on sale as well but as it was lunchtime, I thought I better not go to my meetings with a red face and slurry speech. *Hic!*
The promotion ends on 31st of October. You must produce your WAH card when paying. Just go to the WAH’s FB here to download the voucher. Application for WAH membership is free, just check with KTO Singapore’s office.
Or if you are really lazy, just print it from here. Remember the promotion is until 31st October 2011.
Enjoy your BBQ. ^^ And can anyone tell me how to get rid of BBQ smell in your clothes?
Febreze!! It helps a little~ I think some of the Korean BBQ restaurants provide that! In Korea, every BBQ restaurant would definitely provide that and some of the stuff would help to spray on your clothes too~
Really? Febreze? But I don’t have leh. Anything else? How come those BBQ Restaurants I went to in Korea never ga
ve me anything? Next time I must ask. When in Korea, I always made sure I go in clothes that I was going to wash coz the smell really lingers….and lingers…and lingers…
Not sure abt others~ haha maybe febreze is in trend now and many restaurants using it. It’s normally placed near the counter:)
omg 🙂 i wanna go to a koren bbq so bad,. that looks so delicious

JeA- You mean the garlic that went with the meat and the lettuce? It was there. Maybe they ran out? As for the chilli paste, I think we asked for it. ^^ Gald you like the restaurant and the food.
