Cast
Gong Yoo – Han Gi Joon
Im Soo Jong – Seo Ji Woo
I first watched this mv on a plane to Korea last year and really liked it. I have been on the lookout for the movie in Singapore ever since and last week, I managed to catch it with much thanks to Encore Films.

Gi Joon is a nerdy, straightfaced, slightly effeminate perfectionist. He is a travel agent, who has never travelled and is constantly advising his customers on the perils of travel. When he is fired from his job, he decided to set up an agency helping people to find their first love.
Im Soo Jung is Ji Woo, a rough, tough stage director who has approached the marriageble age. Yet, she is reluctant to accept anyone, not even when a handosme pilot (Shin Sung Rok) proposed to her. The reason: She can’t forget her first love that she met 10 years ago in India whilst on a holiday.
In an effort to force her to forget first love and move on, her military father (Cheon Ho Jin) made her seek the services of Gi Joon’s agency. And hence, she became his ‘first’ and he is determind to complete the case. Thus began the madcap, life changing journey all over Korea for the 2 opposite characters in their search for Mr Kim Jong Wook.
Will she find her first love again?
Overview:
What really captured my interest and curiosity was Gong Yoo. I’ve not seen him in such a charcter before and I must say he acted very well. As his first movie comeback after his military service, he chose a light-hearted rom-com and sheded his last image in ‘Coffee Prince Shop No 1’ as a macho man. And I thorougly enjoyed Im Soo Jung in this movie as well. Makes a change from all her heavy weight movies and dramas (‘I’m Sorry, I Love You’, ‘I’m a Cyborg, It’s OK’).
Though not hilarious, there were many chuckle funny moments. Like when Gong Yoo dressed up as Bae Yong Joon’s character, Kang Joon Sang in ‘Winter Sonata’ . Most of the funny, sweet moments happened when the two of them are together. The chemistry between the two of them is amazing (they are rumoured to be a couple). It is what made the movie a success and is crucial in a rom-com.
Trailer for Finding Mr Destiny. Watch out for Gong Yoo dressed as BYJ’s Joon Sang in Winter Sonata
This movie also saw the appearance of two well known theatrical actors- Oh Man Seok and Shin Sung Rok. I wonder why they didn’t get them to sing. hehe!
In the movie, Ji Woo kept saying that if it was meant to be, fate would bring them together again (her first love). But in reality, she was really afraid of the ending…the what if it doesn’t work out, the what if he wasn’t the one. So she prefers to dream, to bask in the feeling of ‘finding that Mr Destiny’ but not really actually wanting to find him. But as her father said, if fate gives her an opportunity, she must grab it. First love doesn’t mean it’s the last love and you have to close one chapter before you can go on to the next chapter.
I don’t really find Im Soo Jung very pretty but she is very good in acting. But hor, she does have that certain x factor.
Personally for me, the fact that it was partly set in Jodhur was a pleasant surprise. I was in the Blue City some years ago with my husband and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It may not be the first choice of a romantic getaway for many people, but there is something in this ancient city of the maharajas that you can’t get in Bali or Phuket.
Finding Mr Destiny is now showing in Golden Village cinemas. Do go and watch it with your girlfriends, boyfriends if you have the time. Take a break away from the madca, hectic world and indulge in a little heart warming, funny story for about 2 hours
Besides Gong Yoo, Bobby Kim and Gummy also sang the second ost for the movie. Nice.
Do they look like a couple? ^^
